The 2011 BETOYS project are images linked together by a story enriched with relationships and metaphors. In the serial multiplication of faces and bodies deliberately or only apparently expressionless and in identical poses to themselves - almost the formulation of multiples and submultiples - the construction of a narrative structure of pure abstraction, rather than a story of objective reality. Motionless children in physical space become hostages, immobile silent clones of a deformed, altered real.
It’s meticulous construction by the artist where a body, a small body of a child, becomes fiction, a photographic set, a small martyrdom imposed for a blurry story in large dimensions. A red rope, a hidden gaze, a close fist, become the plot of a story of an unexpected universe, where restraint and detention are the only vigilant and eloquent elements.
What gives children their sacred character?
A rope can express the silence of a gaze that is difficult to escape, as it is impossible to understand this silence without first marrying it. It is easy to wonder about the meaning of these images, their logical structure. Julien Beck would say "the question creates: I have no answers, only questions."
